Bellaire High School’s Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps

Cadets from Bellaire High School’s (BHS) Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) 20th Cardinal Battalion lent a helping hand at the 40th annual holiday donation drive at the Jewish Community Center of Houston (JCC). Along with B’nai B’rith and Temple Sinai Brotherhood, the JCC sponsored the event that benefited Star of Hope Mission. The annual event began 40 years ago by Meyerland resident Ed Gardner. BHS cadets arrived before sunrise to volunteer their time taking donated items from neighbor’s vehicles and loading them into a truck to be delivered to Star of Hope. In addition to the BHS cadets, members and coaches from the Cardinals baseball team also attended the event and volunteered their time and efforts. Over the last 40 years, the annual event has assisted about 400,000 families in the community. Pictured are the cadets (top row, from left) Cayden Pomposello, Alyx Robles, Nicholas Velasquez; (middle row, from left) Javier Moreno, Brittney Robles, Angelina Castro; (front row) Senior Army Instructor Jennifer Collins and Remy Collins, mascot for the day.
