Bellaire resident Cody Moore (second from left with his wife Karen and kids Levi and Mitchell) was recently honored with a Carnegie Medal on behalf of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. On New Year’s Eve in 2021, Moore was having dinner in La Porte near the Houston Ship Channel and saw a car fall into the water. Moore jumped from a ferry landing into the 68-degree water and swam to the car to help. When he reached the car, the water had risen over the driver’s head and Moore helped him get out through the window. With the driver floating on his back, Moore swam toward the ferry landing and held onto a buoy in the water. Then, two other people assisted by tying shirts together to create a lifeline for Moore and the driver, threw it to Moore, and pulled them out of the water. In recognition of his bravery, Moore also received a proclamation from Bellaire Mayor Andrew S. Friedberg and the City of Bellaire.
