Crime Stoppers of Houston’s “Leading the Way to a Safer Houston” drew more than 500 supporters. The gala, at the Hilton Americas Houston, was chaired by Amy and Neil Leibman, Genny and John McIntyre, and Sheridan and John Eddie Williams. The program included a message from actor Matthew McConaughey. Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious honored media icon Dave Ward for his 40 years of service to Crime Stoppers, and she participated in a conversation with family members of victims. They included Paul Castro, father of 17-year-old David Castro, shot and killed in a road-rage incident after leaving an Astros game; Theresa Seck, sister of Patrick Aikens, who was shot to death walking outside his Galleria-area apartment; and Chuck Cook, son of 80-year-old Rosalie Cook, who was murdered by a habitual offender while  leaving Walgreens in the middle of the day in the Meyerland area. The gala raised a record-setting $1,035,000 for crime-prevention programs, including a new Safe Community Research Center launching in 2022. See crime-stoppers.org.
