The Young Guns

Westbury Little League's 8U select team, the Young Guns (pictured), won a baseball tournament and raised $1,677 for breast-cancer awareness and research at the same time. The team played in the Strike Out Breast Cancer Tournament in Richmond, benefitting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Players’ families pledged money on a per-run or per-hit basis to support the cause. At the end of the tournament, the Young Guns had 58 hits and 44 runs. They surprised coach Warren Carter, whose mother lost her battle with breast cancer, with a poster documenting their fundraising success. The Young Guns are (from left) Jack Frawner, Easton Dean, Phoenix Garza, Ethan Wood, Tommy Carter, Aaron Jacobs, Calvin Lear, Liam Sprinkle, Milo Mendoza, Leo Santillana, Thomas Nicholson and Teddy Martin.
