School days are here again, and whether your student is attending virtually or in person, they can’t escape homework. Don’t worry, because we have an electronic resource that meets your needs, and all you need is your library card.

Learning Express Library’s School Center helps with building skills at the elementary, middle and high school levels, while other centers offer assistance with preparation for high school equivalency exams, college admissions tests, software skills, resume-building and more.

Opposing Viewpoints is an excellent resource for researching social issues and current events. In addition to background on the topic, they provide bullet points describing opposing sides of each issue in order to help with a balanced overview. Many topics include “viewpoint essays” written by experts who are on opposing sides of a social issue. Supporting articles, video, audio and more are also available.

Explora is an easy-to-use, student-focused interface that searches across our EBSCO databases on a variety of topics. This is a great starting point for basic research from reliable reference resources. Click here for a short tutorial on how to get started!

Biography is your resource for information on people throughout history and around the world. Credo is another excellent basic reference source, including titles from the DK Eyewitness Books collection, while the Handbook of Texas Online and the Texas Almanac are great resources on Texas people, places & history. Need to brush up on your language skills? Check out Transparent Language

Many of these resources offer accessibility features such as text-to-speech and translation from English to another language. They also allow you to save and/or email articles and provide access to citation details in multiple formats (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.). For a listing of all our reference electronic resources check out our Research & Learn page. When provided by the vendor, we’ve linked short video tutorials on how to best use these resources.

Need some guidance or refreshers before helping your student with their math homework? In addition to the help provided through Learning Express Library, you can find books like Math Smart, Idiot’s Guide to Algebra or Secrets of Mental Math. You can also find books like Grasp: the Science Transforming How We Learn and TheDadLab: 50 Awesome Science Projects for Parents and Kids in our Overdrive collection.

Once you’ve finished helping your student with their homework, it’s your turn to relax, so why not do that with a movie from Kanopy, music from Freegal, a magazine from Flipster, a newspaper from Newsbank or magazines, streaming video, eBooks & eAudio from Overdrive? Too tired to decide what you want to read? Check out our Book Hunters readers’ advisory service or request a Book Bundle. Remember, all of this is available for free with your library card, and if you have questions there are several ways to “Ask Us”!

Have a safe and successful school year!
