  • Courage

Brothers Gray and Cooper Younkin, who attend Herod Elementary, decided to use the word Courage to inspire other people. Their neighbors Rose Corder and Viveca Sonberg let them hang their work of art on their fence near Green Willow so more could admire it.

  • Topiary bears

Seeing what the Topiary Bears on will be wearing for every holiday is a longstanding neighborhood tradition. This year, in addition to their bunny ears, the bears are wearing their color-coordinated facemasks. You can spot these on Greenbriar Ave. by Main.

  • Easter decorations

  • Giant bunny

Hop on over to see this big bunny hanging out across from West University Elementary. He must be hiding some giant Easter eggs!

  • The Grinch

Stasie and Tim Smith were inspired by a post on Facebook and got out the Christmas decorations to spread some cheer. Stasie shared,  “The Grinch is in front of my home office window and it’s so fun to see the kids stop and wave at the Grinch. We’ve even had people take pictures of their kids. It’s nice to have a little bit of silliness in this stressful time.”

  • Mueller home

The Mueller family are known for their legendary Halloween decorations. They decided to get some of their favorite holiday inflatables out a little early this year to celebrate smiles and laughter. And there’s even a minion to liven things up even more!

  • Southside Fire Station

Come see this nice message for first responders drawn on the fence on Edloe, located right across from the Southside Fire Station driveway so the first responders know they are appreciated.

  • Wash Yo Hands

Jesse Yoburn's yard is a holiday fan favorite - he spells out “Shalom, Y’all” in his yard. The other day he realized by scrambling the letters and adding a few new ones, he could spell out “Wash Yo’ Hands” and inspire people to both wash their hands and laugh.

  • Rainbow

Season Paquette and her family were thrilled when they heard that people had seen their inflatable rainbow and it had made them happy since spreading some cheer was their colorful goal.

  • Mardi Gras tree

This Mardi Gras Bead Tree at Willow Waterhole Greenspace will have you thinking a Mardi Gras float must have just gone by. Some silly neighbors found a good use for their leftover beads.

  • West University Methodist Church

West University Methodist Church and School wants to know everyone is thinking of all the helpers in our community, including the many medical workers that live in the neighborhoods.

  • Inspirational fence

Bellaire neighbors strolling down Baldwin are being treated to a beautiful and inspirational fence. The work of art is the creative collaboration of Kelly Bijanki, her son, Kaplan, a kindergartener at Horn, and their artist babysitter, Whitney Shepherd. Wise words include, “We’re All in this TOGETHER!” and “Stay Strong and Positive. Be Kind to Yourself. This is HARD!"

  • Cross made of Easter eggs

Even the Easter Bunny is a big fan of this eye catching wooden cross covered in plastic Easter eggs. The artist says he is still adding on to the display and plans to leave it up past Easter. Make sure to enjoy the patch of bluebonnets growing underneath the cross.

Even while practicing safe social distancing, these creative neighbors found ways to express gratitude and support for our community helpers and spread cheer, day by day and yard by yard. See our slideshow for some we've spotted around town, including some Easter-themed fun.
