Supporters of The Parish School gathered at The Ballroom at Bayou Place in colorful evening dress for “The Future’s So Bright” gala. Tables were decorated with rainbow-colored settings, lavish centerpieces and chandeliers of every color. Gala chairs were (pictured, from left) Brian and Susan McConn and Ofelia and Vuk Vujasinovic. The Parish School specializes in educating children who have communication delays and learning differences. Emceeing was John-Thomas Kobos, who attended the school in 1985-87 and is now a morning news anchor at KIII-TV Corpus Christi. Jill Wood was honored for founding the school’s Adventure Play program. Ofelia Vujasinovic shared how her son Sava was diagnosed with ataxia, a condition that affects movement and balance. She said his doctors recommended against physical activities. Instead, the parents enrolled Sava in Adventure Play, where he climbs roofs and zip-lines across play structures. The family was recently able to take a family skiing vacation, where Sava was able to conquer the slopes unassisted. See parishschool.org
