Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston celebrated 50 years of dialogue, collaboration and service at its annual Tapestry Gala at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston. Nearly 600 supporters raised $650,000 for four areas of service: Meals on Wheels/Animeals; Refugee Services; Interfaith Relations and Community Partnerships; and Volunteer Houston. Gala emcee was KHOU Great Day Houston host Deborah Duncan. Honorees were Brigitte and Bashar Kalai. Co-chairs were Shaista and Shahzad Bashir, Bimla and Swatantra Jain, Dr. Sushma and Devinder Mahajan, Lorraine and Ed Wulfe, and Nihala and Shaukat Zakaria. Singers Mike Kahn, Dee Dee Dochen and Ken Gayle took the stage. The Rev. Gregory Han, IM’s director of Interfaith Relations, led a multi-faith invocation accompanied by community faith leaders. Rabbi Roy A. Walter was presented with the inaugural Spirit of Respect award.
