Christian Groff

Troop 55 Scout and St. Thomas High School senior Christian Groff (pictured) received the rank of Eagle Scout and the bronze, gold and silver Eagle palms at a Court of Honor held at St. John the Divine Church. The beneficiary for Christian’s Eagle Scout project was College Park Memorial Cemetery, a small piece of history located on West Dallas. It was founded in 1896 and is one of Houston’s oldest African-American cemeteries. Christian refurbished five wrought iron benches near the entrance. With the help of woodworker Susan Ackermann, he cut, sanded and routed the wood planks. He then applied several coats of sealant to the slats. Also, with the help of family and fellow Troop 55 scouts, he stripped, sanded, and painted the benches and then attached the slats to complete the project.
