Editor's Note - August 2017

It boggles my mind that I no longer have kids in school. Regardless, it’s fun to reminisce. I always meet impressive residents in our annual back-to-school issue, like the parents who create gourmet breakfasts and young moms who spend Sundays organizing their toddlers’ clothes for the week. If I had only known... (yeah, right). I called Bellaire High School teacher Ann Linsley to set up a photo shoot for Jordan Magaziner Steinfeld’s article on inspiring teachers. I told Ms. Linsley that recent graduate Ben Schwierking had picked her as the teacher who inspired him the most. She was floored. At the photo shoot, she seemed to think it was a “set up” and asked him again what the story was about. When he explained it’s about teachers who have had an impact on students’ lives, she said, “…and this is a positive article?” Yes, Ben reassured her, saying she truly was one of his favorites.
