Meaningful Mosaic Masterpiece at SVdP

The St. Vincent de Paul community gathered today to dedicate the school's colorful Legacy Wall. Every student at the school processed past the wall on the way to the dedication ceremony.

The panorama spans more than 32 feet in length and is over 12 feet in length. An estimated 2,000 individual tiles weave together to create the work of art.

It took more than three years to complete and was made possible due to school and parish leadership, creative directors, a fundraiser and hundreds of donors and volunteers working together.

There’s much symbolism to be found within the images and colors on the Legacy Wall. For example, the school motto – “Faith, Knowledge, Spirit” - is featured in the ribbon that wraps around the tree at the heart of the mosaic, and faculty members' names are stamped into the collection of large flowers at the center. The colorful swirl that spans the width of the mosaic includes the Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control) and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Courage, Humility, Prudence, Generosity and Honesty). There are also images of Houston - a bayou, the skyline over the Medical Center, an armadillo and a mosquito.

The phrase:  "Dream, Inspire, Create, Innovate," also present on the wall, became a mantra for those working on the Legacy Wall.

Katy Antill, a school parent and volunteer, and Ann Harris, art teacher at SVdP, partnered as creative directors to complete the project.
